Healing Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)

What is your ACE score?

ACEs program your brain to be highly-stressed, often resulting in depression, anxiety, health issues, and substance abuse.

The CDC-Kaiser Permanente ACE Study shows that 64% of adults have at least one ACE, and that people with four ACEs — including living with an alcoholic parent, witnessing violence, physical and emotional abuse, neglect, and losing a parent to divorce — have a huge risk of chronic health problems.

The ACEs quiz asks a series of 10 questions about common traumatic experiences that occur in early life. Experiencing 4 or more ACEs is associated with significantly increased risk for 7 out of 10 leading adult causes of death, including heart disease, stroke, cancer, COPD, diabetes, Alzheimers and suicide.

How ACEs affect your health as an adult

Toxic stress

Examples of toxic stress include physical or emotional abuse, chronic neglect, caregiver substance abuse or mental illness, exposure to violence or the accumulated burdens of family economic hardship.

Too much cortisol

Long-term exposure to cortisol and other stress hormones can wreak havoc on almost all of your body’s processes, increasing your risk of many health issues, from heart disease and obesity to anxiety and depression

Long-term effects

Toxic stress has the potential to change a child’s brain chemistry and brain anatomy. It can weaken the architecture of the developing brain, which can lead to lifelong problems in learning, behavior, and physical and mental health.

Why was I so hard to love?

broken heart

As a child I was taught to be good, quiet, clean, respectful, never to be a burden, never to get in the way, and never to put a foot out of place. Praise and love were only given when it was earned.

This lead to a belief system in my adult life that kept me in terrible romantic and work related relationships. I felt I always had to go the extra mile,

always had to be spectacular, I could never be sick or ask for help.

I could never appear weak or incapable. I always gave everything I had in every area of my life and always found myself in a state of disappointment and sadness.

Why was I so hard to love? What was wrong with me that all people did was take and rarely give anything back? I tried so hard to please and still, I was only receiving praise and scraps of love when I turned myself inside out for those people.

While doing the Healing ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) with the TAT (Tapas Acupressure Technique) program I had a revelation. Through those false beliefs created as a child I had caused most of these situations. I was the one constantly rejecting help, I took it upon myself to be superwoman and I never asked for help. I was the one who wanted to “wow” these people. Many of them were impressed with me, but I never asked for anything. Not what I needed in romantic relationships, not what I needed at work, not even what I needed from my friends. I never spoke up for myself or asked for help.

Can you heal Adverse Childhood Experiences?

brain science

It used to be thought that we were born with a fixed genetic blueprint that determined our traits, behaviors, and health. Now, discoveries in the field of epigenetics have radically rebooted this theory by demonstrating that our DNA is more of a switchboard than a blueprint.

Epigenetics is the study of how external forces, such as your environment, beliefs, and life experiences, trigger on-off mechanisms on the genetic switchboard.

The beliefs set in place during a traumatic event continue to inform you. A typical belief that “life is not safe and I can’t relax” is a non-stop input throughout your life, leading to toxic stress, and fear. This causes your “red alert” warning system to be stuck at “on”.

Once this belief is actually changed to “life is safe and I can relax”, cellular response immediately changes leading to increased normalization of all biological functions, including brain function.

How do you heal Adverse Childhood Experiences with TAT?

Doing TAT allows you to directly affect your traits, behaviors and health at the genetic level. Your “red alert” system isn’t on 24/7 anymore.

Over 25 years of experience with hundreds of thousands of people have demonstrated that using the simple TAT process works for healing ACEs.

TAT combines holding acupressure points on your head as you put your attention on a series of healing statements.

What makes healing with TAT different from other approaches?

With TAT you can heal without reliving the experience, talking about it, digging for core issues or figuring anything out.

You don't have to explain why you feel the way you do. You just do the simple TAT process to heal.

Pairing TAT with the Adverse Childhood Experiences Study is what makes the Healing ACEs with the TAT Program so powerfully effective.

Healing Adverse Childhood Experiences with the TAT Program

Happy daughter

A large proportion of adults go through adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and can exhibit a wide range of symptoms including alcoholism, drug abuse, depression, suicide, poor physical health, and obesity. The symptoms seen in adults can in turn expose the next generation to adverse outcomes – creating a cycle that’s hard to break. We can reduce or eliminate the impact of ACEs on ourselves and future generations by healing ourselves now.

Typical events include: car accidents, surgery, physical traumas, emotional traumas, sexual or physical abuse. Being raised in families with alcohol, drug or other active addictions are happening, emotionally toxic work environments, and even prolonged periods of intense stress or illness. Being fully in your body is necessary for healing.

What to expect as you do the program:

  • Expanding your healing to include family, ancestors, and all beings involved.
  • Including whatever's stressing you the most right now.
  • Giving yourself acknowledgment that those traumas happened and that they're over now (re-living the trauma is not part of the healing process).
  • Healing all the places in yourself where those traumas were stored as well as where they all originated
  • Having silent, unedited, completing conversations with people involved.
  • Giving acceptance to everyone involved, including yourself.

Actively choosing and feeling what you want to feel and how you want your life to be. Being more present in the here and now and feeling lighter, less stuck, more connected, and more peace.

Tapas Fleming, Founder of the Tapas Acupressure Technique

"After 25 years of working with thousands of clients, workshop attendees and myself, it became clear that most of us were dealing with the long-lasting effects of childhood traumas.

After failed relationships back in my 20’s, I started searching for a real way to quit that frustrating, repeating cycle. It seemed like my bad relationship with my dad was controlling every relationship that came after. I wondered: how can something that happened decades ago have such a strong hold now?

tapas fleming events

When the ACE (Adverse Childhood Experiences) Study came out in 1998, it confirmed what I already knew: childhood traumas negatively affect our health and adult life. Now I had the science to back up what I was seeing.

With TAT and the ACE study, I have the complete answer to my search:  TAT heals the traumas (ACEs) that cause toxic stress-induced beliefs and behaviors."
